Meade's Bruce Spruell commits to play basketball at American International College

Meade's Bruce Spruell attempts a jump shot in the first quarter in the Class 4A state championship.

Meade basketball star Bruce Spruell has committed to American International College, a Division II school that competes in the Northeast 10 Conference.

Spruell, who transferred from Arundel in his senior year, averaged 15 points and four assists in helping the Mustangs capture the Class 4A state championship this year.

In the state tournament, Spruell scored a combined 25 points with six assists and eight steals in wins over Springbrook and Bethesda-Chevy Chase. Meade finished the season with a 26-2 mark to bring home the program's first state crown and Anne Arundel County's first since Annapolis won in 1990.

American International College, located in Springfield, Mass., won their conference last season and competed in the NCAA D-II tournament.
