McDonogh junior forward Bridgette Andrzejewski, The Baltimore Sun's All-Metro Player of the Year, has been named the 2014-15 Gatorade Maryland Girls Soccer Player of the Year.

Andrzejewski scored an area-high 32 goals and added 11 assists as McDonogh successfully defended its Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference crown, completed the program's first perfect season (15-0) and finished with the top spot in Top Drawer Soccer's Fab 50 national rankings.

"It's definitely a great honor and I couldn't do it own my own," Andrzejewski said. "It was because of my teammates making me a better player throughout the season and my coaching staff making me better as well.

"It's just an honor to receive it and shows that hard work really does pay off. And it's not the hard work that you put in just yourself, but the teammates around you that makes you better. I think that's really what I've come to learn."

She is the third McDonogh player to receive the Gatorade award, which is in its 30th year of recognizing the best high school athletes in various sports. Former McDonogh standouts Marissa Schuchat (1998-99) and Ashley Spivey (2011-12) were the others.

Andrzejewski, who has committed to North Carolina, becomes a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year award to be announced in May.

A three-time All-Metro first team selection, she also was named the 2014 National High School Girls Soccer Player of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
