The McDonogh girls soccer team took over the No. 1 spot in Top Drawer Soccer's Fab 50 national rankings this week after finishing its season with a 15-0 record and the Interscholastic Athletic Assoication of Maryland A Conference championship.
The Eagles moved up from No. 2 after previous No. 1 Northern Highlands (N.J.) suffered its first loss of the season last week.
The McDonogh boys team, which spent the majority of the season at No. 1, dropped to No. 20 this week after falling to Loyola Blakefield, 2-0, in Sunday's Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship game. The Dons, who also took over the No. 1 spot in The Baltimore Sun's Top 15 poll this week, moved into the Fab 50 poll at No. 19.
Howard County champion River Hill, which is seeking its ninth Class 3A state crown when it takes on Huntingtown on Thursday, is now the highest-ranked area boys team at No. 14 in the country.
