Sometimes when you watch a high school sporting event, you just know you will never see anything like it again. That's what I said after watching Jess Harlee's incredible individual performance in leading Fallston to a state girls basketball championship in 2009. Then came 2010.
Harlee, who now plays at West Virginia, spent most of her senior season on the bench, sidelined after surgery to repair a torn knee ligament, but once her doctor cleared her to play in mid-February, she threw herself into helping the Cougars repeat as state champs. Just as she had a year earlier, the 6-foot forward dominated the title game with 16 points, 19 rebounds, five assists and five steals and shot 12-for-16 from the free-throw line in the 58-53 Class 3A victory over favored Gwynn Park.
One such performance was remarkable. But two? Now that's something that just might never happen again.
