Two big upsets highlighted Week 7 for The Baltimore Sun's Top 15 football teams -- No. 14 St. Frances, 20-14, over No. 5 Calvert Hall and Marriotts Ridge, 12-7, over No. 13 Glenelg.
Although still an upset, St. Frances' win over the Cardinals wasn't a tremendous surprise. After all, the Panthers beat Calvert Hall last season, too, 32-20, in their first season in the A Conference.
At 2-1 in the conference, the Panthers are ahead of last year's pace with a win last weekend over Archbishop Spalding, one of three conference teams to beat them last season. Their only conference loss was to No. 3 Gilman, 42-16, and they play at No. 1 McDonogh Friday night.
Marriotts Ridge hadn't beaten Glenelg since 2008 and this fall, the Gladiators had lost only to No. 9 Howard and No. 10 River Hill by a total of eight points. The Mustangs' Tyler Poole intercepted a pass on fourth-and-goal in the final minutes to seal the win. Both teams are 4-3 in the Howard County conference.
