The teams’ second meeting of the season will be difficult to match the first — a thrilling 78-76 overtime game won by host Mount St. Joseph on Dec. 9. Both teams played at an extremely high level at both ends, with the Gaels finding the overtime answers to get the win. Expect much of the same this time around, with plenty on the line as the teams jockey for position in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference and Baltimore Catholic Leaguestandings. Mount St. Joseph is at the top of both leagues (9-1 in the MIAA and 8-1 in the BCL), with St. Frances (7-3 and 7-2, respectively) not far behind. In the first game, Williams led the Gaels with 28 points and Booth scored eight of his 20 points in overtime. They also made 21 of 24 free throws. White poured in a game-high 31 for the Panthers, who also got 16 from Saddler. Look for the Panthers to come out fast on their home floor Friday with the visiting Gaels needing to match the intensity. Clatchey put it simply: “We just have to find a way to win.” Mount St. Joseph did come away with a win at St. Frances last season, which he believes can help this time around.
