High school roundup (Sept. 16):  No. 3 Dons edge No. 4 Cards in OT

Danique Parker broke loose on the left side and made a diving kick to score the game-winner with two minutes left in overtime as No. 3 Loyola Blakefield beat No. 4 Calvert Hall, 3-2, in soccer Wednesday.

Dons coach Lee Tschantret complimented the midfield play of Sean Clarke and Shane McWilliams and steady defense throughout.


"We had a little bit more control of the ball," Tschantret said. Loyola "played the same system throughout."

The host Cardinals (2-1-1) led 2-1 at the half before Clarke scored his second goal, a free kick that he hooked into the bottom left corner with 15:52 left in regulation to tie the game for Loyola (3-0).


Calvert Hall had a direct kick with 2:20 left in regulation, but the shot went wide right. Loyola's defense has given up one goal in the past three games.

No. 1 McDonogh 3, No. 15 Archbishop Spalding 0: The visiting Eagles (5-0-1) scored a flurry of goals in the first half for a 3-0 halftime lead over the Cavaliers (3-2).

McDonogh , which has won four of the past eight Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference titles, found the net just 13 minutes into the game on a goal by Stephen Nichols. Tunde Akinlosotu scored two minutes later.

No. 5 Archbishop Curley 4, Mount Saint Joseph 2: The host Friars (4-3) rolled to a 4-1 lead before the Gaels (1-4) scored their second goal with seven minutes left to play.

Tre Pulliam had a hat trick for Curley.

Severn 3, Sts. Peter and Paul 0: Tate Tazcack had two goals as the Admirals (5-2) beat the Sabres (0-4).

Girls soccer


John Carroll 2, Severn 1, OT: Caroline Barwick scored the game-winner with 8:45 left in overtime as the Patriots (2-1) beat the host Admirals (3-3).

Severn took a 1-0 lead at the half before John Carroll scored the next two goals.

Field hockey

No. 2 McDonogh 7, Severn 2: The host Eagles (5-0) got three of their seven goals off penalty corner shots and beat the Admirals (0-3).

D'Arcy Carlson led McDonogh with two goals.

No. 3 Garrison Forest 5, Mount de Sales 2: Kara Frazier scored twice to lead the Grizzlies (5-0-1) past the host Sailors (3-1-1).


No. 13 Atholton 2, No. 7 Catonsville 1, OT: Tori Raulin scored twice and the host Raiders (2-0) upset the Comets (4-1).

Girls volleyball


No. 3 Dulaney d. Perry Hall, 3-0: Olivia Finckel had 14 kills and Mallory Svoboda had 18 assists to lead the Lions (2-0) past the host Gators (2-1).
