For the first time this season, the Ravens' high school Quarterback Challenge ended in a tie, with Hammond's Tyler Martin and Huntingtown's Robbie Payne hitting the 15-yard drop-in net and missing their other two throws at halftime of the Ravens 20-17 win over the Bengals on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium.
Usually, the two would break the tie with one pass for the longest distance, but a Ravens' spokesman said there was no tiebreaker due to miscommunication.
Martin had to rally to tie Payne, who hit the 15-yard net on his first attempt. Each player has three throws and can pick any one of three nets -- at 15, 30 and 45 yards. Payne missed his next two tosses aiming for the 30-yard net, but Martin stuck to the 15-yard net and hit his third attempt.
Both players will continue their seasons in the playoffs. Martin's Bears (6-4) are seeded fourth in Class 2A South while Payne's Hurricanes (9-1) are No. 1 in 3A South.
