Gruver won the Class 3A state title during the indoor season with a vault of 13 feet, a state record. She also won the Baltimore County championship with a vault of 12 feet, 6 inches. Gruver was further tested Thursday in the prestigious Penn Relays.
The meet, first held on April 21, 1895, is the longest uninterrupted college track meet in the country. It annually includes athletes from high schools, colleges and track clubs from all over the country and abroad.
"The girls here were really good," she said. "They were good competition."
The Penn Relays are scheduled to run through Saturday at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
Mikey Singer (McDonogh), Ryan Forsyth (Severna Park), Tyler Spear (Loyola), Lawrence Cager III (Calvert Hall), Nick Neral (Century), Michael Francis (Digital Harbor), Landrie Hatcher (Mount St. Joseph), Andrew Robinson (McDonogh), Ellie Gonzalez (Catholic), Isabel Griffith (Dulaney), Isabella Laurel (South Carroll), Reilly Wagner (South River), and Bria Hill (Long Reach) are the other local athletes scheduled to participate.
