Former St. Frances linebacker Rahshaun Smith, who transferred after last fall to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, committed Thursday to play for Clemson.
Smith, who committed on his 18th birthday, had more than 40 offers from FBS programs, including Florida State, Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Wisconsin. A five-star recruit and the No. 1 player in Maryland in the Class of 2016 last fall, according to Rivals.com, Smith was a first-team All-Metro selection after transferring to St. Frances from Calvert Hall.
At 6-feet-2 and 210 pounds, Smith transitioned from defensive end to middle linebacker and dominated opponents with his speed and ability to change directions. He finished last season with 111 tackles and two interceptions. He had both interceptions in the Panthers' 8-3 upset of No. 1 McDonogh.
Thursday night, Smith Tweeted: "I am 100% Committed to Clemson All Thanks to God and the Ones Who Helped Me Through This Process." He announced his committment earlier in the evening on the social media CommitCast.
