The first weekend of action for public school teams didn't bring many surprises, with most of the top teams involved in very close games.
Only seven of The Baltimore Sun's Top 15 teams emerged from the weekend undefeated and only four were public school teams -- No. 2 River Hill, No. 3 Meade, No. 4 Old Mill and No. 11 Arundel. No. 8 McDonogh, No. 13 Archbishop Spalding and No. 14 St. Paul's also remain undefeated.
Here's a look at some of the numbers that stood out from the early season.
2
Rushing touchdowns scored by Broadneck's Canaan Gebele in a loss to Old Mill. The Bruins returned only one player who scored an offensive touchdown last season.
3
Defending state champs to open the season victorious -- Henry A. Wise (4A), River Hill (3A) and Middletown (2A)
3-0
Record for McDonogh, the best of any local team. Three wins matches the Eagles' total for the 2012 season
4
Touchdowns scored by Old Mill's Marcus Hicks -- three rushing, one returning -- in the comeback 35-21 win over Broadneck
4
Touchdowns scored by Aberdeen QB Lavell McCullers -- two rushing, two passing -- in the 42-23 win over Edgewood
6
Largest margin of victory for any of the defending state champions that won their season openers -- Wise over Douglass-PG, 20-14. Also, River Hill beat Glenelg, 7-3, and Middletown beat Westminster, 19-15.
14
Point lead for Broadneck before Old Mill rallied to win

25
Straight wins for River Hill, the area's longest active streak
28

44
Minutes Glenelg held River Hill scoreless before Drew Pritchard hit Cory Daniel with a 55-yard touchdown pass for a 7-3 Hawks win
103
Points scored by John Carroll in its first two games, while allowing just 14
355
