Dynamic duo leads No. 13 Bryn Mawr past No. 5 Severn, 5-0

Senior All-Metro midfielder Riley Barger and sophomore midfielder Danielle Hogarth give the Bryn Mawr girls soccer team a one-two tandem that’s difficult to match.

More proof came Wednesday in the No. 13 Mawrtians' showdown against No. 5 Severn.

Barger scored twice and Hogarth added three second-half goals plus an assist as the host Mawrtians came away with a convincing 5-0 win over Severn in a key Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference game.

Bryn Mawr, the two-time defending league champion, improve to 8-3 overall and 6-0 in the conference, while the Admirals (8-3) drop to 4-1 in the league.

Leading 1-0 at the half, the home team exploded for four goals after the break, thanks in much part to Barger and Hogarth.

"They complement each other so well, and their chemistry is getting better and better," Bryn Mawr coach Tina Steck said.  "We controlled more of the game in the second half and were able to put away some great opportunities.  I was impressed with how the team was able to finish off chances against a quality team like Severn.  It says a lot about how far we've come."

In the first half, the visiting Admirals created more scoring chances with more time with the ball, but the Mawrtians broke through for the game's first goal when Barger scored with 17:50 left before intermission. Barger ran on to a nifty through ball sent in by Hogarth and hit a perfectly placed left-footed shot from 12 yards that banged off the far right post before going in.
