Dallas Griffiths switches from Maryland to Liberty

Dallas Griffiths

A family reunion led to a Signing Day surprise for Maryland.

Dallas Griffiths, a three-star linebacker from Tallahassee, Fla., signed his letter of intent Wednesday to attend Liberty. Chase Griffiths, Dallas' older brother, is a sophomore linebacker for the Flames.

Griffiths, 6 feet 2, 225 pounds, committed to the Terps in December after a 190-tackle senior season that culminated with his North Florida Christian squad winning a state championship. In an interview with The Sun last month, Griffiths said that Liberty -- an FCS program in Lynchburg, Va. -- was his runner-up school.

"He runs a great 40 time," NFC coach Robert Craft said shortly after Griffiths committed to the Terps. "He really can change directions well. He's explosive in the weight room. I think he's an all-around player as far as what Maryland sees. And they like his ability to play the run and also play the pass when you need to. But we're proud of him."
