Performer of the Year
MICHELLE NEWMAN Eastern Tech
The junior had the area's top triple jump this year, 40 feet, 5 inches, at the Baltimore County meet.
Newman moved on to take the Class 2A state title in both the long and triple jumps. She demonstrated her versatility there, as she finished second in the 200, competing in the triple jump while going through the preliminaries for that race.
Coaches of the Year
SHEDRICK ELLIOTT AND MELISSA MIKULA Western Tech
Elliott and Mikula took over the program just a few weeks before practice began and guided the Wolverines to a fine season.
Elliott, who used to run for the Wolverines and still holds some school records, combined with Mikula and assistant Amy Horvitz to help Western finish second in the state in Class 1A.
