All-Carroll County: Girls track

Performer of the Year: Maura Linde, Century

The freshman had a dazzling first year, becoming perhaps the top distance runner in the state. She capped it off with a spectacular performance at the state meet, winning both the Class 2A 1,600 (5 minutes, 05.95 seconds) and the 3,200 (10:57.51) and taking third in the 800.

Linde swept the 1,600 and 3,200 at the Carroll County meet, winning the latter by about 40 seconds.

Coach of the Year: Rob Pennington, South Carroll

South Carroll, despite being loaded with underclassmen, finished second at the Carroll County meet, won the Class 1A South regional and took sixth in the state.

The Cavaliers didn't get many points from seniors, as Pennington relied heavily on younger performers such as Rachel Sykes and Nina Boston. Pennington saw his athletes improve throughout the season, and he gets all of his scorers back next year.
