Leathers moved into the No. 1 position for the Eagles this season and didn't miss a beat, running away with Carroll County, Blue Ridge Conference and Class 2A West titles before finishing third at the Class 2A state meet.

Also among his triumphs were the Gettysburg Invitational, Westminster Invitational and Run from the Lions' Den, to go along with a third-place finish in the small schools division of the prestigious Bull Run Invitational.

The senior, who remains undecided about his college choice, shaved around 30 seconds from most of his times from a year ago, leading his team to a runner-up finish at the state meet and a No. 4 ranking in the metro area.

Coach of the Year

Dan Replogle, Winters Mill

Replogle came to Winters Mill from Francis Scott Key and quickly turned the Falcons' program into a contender.

His team finished third in the county (up from seventh a year ago), second in the Blue Ridge Conference (up from sixth at last year's Piedmont Conference meet) and second at the Class 2A West regional (up from seventh a year ago). With only three seniors on their roster, the Falcons went on to place a respectable sixth at this year's Class 2A state meet, despite not placing a runner in the top 24.

Roplogle shared Coach of the Year honors with Tim Walsh a year ago, when the two were co-coaches at Francis Scott Key.

Note:

Players and Coach of the Year were selected by Rich Scherr after consultation with

staff and area coaches.
