Calvert Hall assistant basketball coach Hakim Hibbert, a former standout player at City and Towson University, has been named the new boys basketball coach at Mount Carmel.
Hibbert takes over for Tom Rose, who spent the past 13 years at Mount Carmel before taking over the Goucher men's program.
Hibbert, 30, spent the past two seasons at Calvert Hall as a varsity assistant and head junior varsity coach.
"It's a wonderful opportunity to take over a great team, a great program that has been growing with coach Rose," he said. "We're going to continue to defend hard and get out in the open floor to run. We will be fun and exciting."
Rose finished with a 218-162 career mark and the Cougars enjoyed a breakthrough 2014-15 season. In going 32-11, they reached the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference title game and the Baltimore Catholic League semifinals. Calvert Hall swept the two league championships and finished No. 1 in The Sun's Top 15 poll.
