Broadneck, St. Frances make huge leaps in state football poll after upsets

Football

After pulling a couple of the biggest upsets of the high school football season Friday night, Broadneck and St. Frances soared into the Top 11 in this week's Maryland High School Football Media State Poll.

Broadneck jumped from No. 18 to No. 8 after rolling over previous No. 7 Arundel, 42-14, to improve to 8-0. St. Frances was not ranked last week but after edging the defending Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference champion and last week's No. 3 McDonogh, 8-3, the Panthers (4-4) debuted at No. 11.

Franklin (7-1), coming off a 22-8 win over last week's No. 22 Milford Mill, moved up three spots to No. 10. Calvert Hall (5-3), which beat Bohemia Manor 31-0, also jumped three to No. 18. Howard (8-0), a 32-3 winner over Hammond, rose from 24 to No. 23.

Archbishop Curley (8-0) remained No. 19 after slipping by Boys' Latin, 13-7. Mount St. Joseph (7-2), dropped to No. 13 after the loss to Gilman.

Old Mill, Mervo, Oakland Mills, Milford Mill and River Hill also received votes but not enough to make the Top 25. Milford Mill and River Hill dropped out of the poll this week after suffering their first losses of the season.
