Boys lacrosse top 5 countdown: No. 3 Boys' Latin

Boys Latin' head coach Bob Shriver with his team in 2013 (Gene Sweeney Jr. / Baltimore Sun)

The boys lacrosse season is underway for the private schools and the public schools will begin play on Friday, so it's time to start rolling out the projections for this season's top teams.

In the coming days, Varsity Letters will count down the top five. The area's preseason No. 1 team will be posted on Thursday. The entire Top 15 poll, along with the top players to watch, will be available online Thursday night and the entire preview package will be in Friday's print edition of The Baltimore Sun.

Here's a look at No. 3 Boys' Latin:

Coach: Bob Shriver

Last season: 18-0, No. 1

Postseason: Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference champions

Outlook: Bob Shriver steps down after 36 years -- what better way to close out an illustrious coaching career than with a successful defense of last year's championship? While the Lakers graduated a sensational senior class, led by the program's all-time leading scorer, Shack Stanwick, they still have plenty of firepower and a strong desire to send Shriver off on the highest of notes. The Lakers' attack is big and skilled with Patrick Spencer (30 goals, 30 assists), Devin Shewell and emerging junior Logan Wisnauskas. Junior goalie Jack Pezzulla, an All-Metro second team pick last season, will anchor the defense. Depth at midfield must develop over the course of the season. It will be a special season at Boys' Latin, regardless, and it would be no surprise to see Shriver's Lakers playing on the final day.
