Boys basketball preseason Top 5: No. 2 St. Frances

The boys basketball season has started for the private schools, and the public schools will begin play Friday. That means it's time to start rolling out the projections for this season's top teams.

In the coming days, you can go to VarsityLetters for a countdown of the top-five teams. The area's preseason No. 1-ranked team will be posted Thursday. The entire Top 15 poll, along with the top
players to watch, will be available online Thursday night and in Friday's print edition.

Last season: 25-13, No. 9

Postseason: MIAA A finals; BCL semifinals

Top players: Daquan Bracey, Jr., G; Khalil Richard, Jr., G; Eric Cobb, Sr., F; Josh Ayemi, Sr., F.

Outlook:   With experienced guards, dominating size up front and a deep bench, the Panthers bring unlimited potential into the season.  Bracey and Richard will both build on strong sophomore seasons and Kurk Lee Jr. adds quality play to the backcourt.   All three can take care of the basketball, set up teammates and find their own shot.  Up front, Kansas State commit Eric Cobb, a highly-touted transfer from Florida, and returnee Josh Ayemi (both 6-feet-8) have the size and athleticism to dominate.   A deep bench will help wear oppontents down.  Myles said sharing the basketball and strong team defense will go a long way in determining just how far St. Frances will go this season.  If everything falls into place, the Panthers could be in prime position to claim MIAA A and BCL championships.
