Girl Athlete of the Week (March 13): Kennedy Clark, River Hill, basketball

Kennedy Clark, River Hill, basketball

The junior point guard provided the key offensive spark to lead the Hawks (18-7) to the Class 2A South region crown, hitting four 3-pointers in the second quarter and finishing with a career-high 23 points in Saturday’s 54-40 win over Calvert. After Calvert cut the Hawks’ lead to 15-13 early in the second quarter, Clark found her perimeter game in a big way. She made her four 3s in a five minutes stretch and the Hawks took hold of the game. The Hawks are making their sixth state tournament appearance and first since 2013, bidding for the program’s second state crown. They will meet Hereford at 3 p.m. Friday at Towson University’s SECU Arena. Clark scored four points in the Hawks’ 50-48 win over Hammond to open the playoffs March 5 and had an 11-point, seven-assist, seven-rebound performance in a 45-40 win over Oakland Mills to reach Saturday’s title game. In her third varsity season, she’s averaging 10.5 points per game this year.

Others considered: Brashae Rice, Poly, basketball; Jaelyn Swann, Long Reach, basketball
