Boy Athlete of the Week (March 6): Anthony Walker, Perry Hall, basketball

The junior forward was the driving force in leading the defending Class 4A state champion and No. 9 Gators (19-6) to three wins and the North region crown last week.

On Feb. 26, he scored the winning basket in the closing seconds for a 66-64 win over Mervo in the region’s Section I semifinals — finishing with 23 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots.

In Wednesday’s 64-63 win over Dulaney that sent the Gators to the region title game, he scored 10 points and added six rebounds.

With the region title on the line Saturday at Paint Branch, he had 25 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots.

In his first varsity season, Walker has settled into his role well on a senior-laden team featuring All-Metro standouts Laquill Hardnett and Anthony Higgs. Walker is averaging 12.6 points, six rebounds, two blocked shots and two assists per game.

Others considered: Jermaine Goodwin, Milford Mill, basketball; Michael Gray, Lake Clifton, basketball; Avion Robinson, Old Mill, basketball
