Girl Athlete of the Week (Feb. 6): Brooke Worrell, Chesapeake-AA, basketball

The senior scored her 1,500th career point Friday night as she led the Cougars to an upset victory over defending Anne Arundel County champion Old Mill, ending the Patriots’ 58-game county regular-season winning streak.

A 5-foot-11 guard, Worrell had 26 points, 17 rebounds and three steals in the 57-45 win over then-No. 9 Old Mill, which Chesapeake had not beaten in 13 years.

She needed just two points to hit the 1,500-point milestone and surpassed it with a game-opening 3-pointer that sparked a 15-0 Cougars run. She also excelled defensively, holding the Patriots’ top inside threat, Sydney Faulcon, to 11 points.

Earlier in the week, Worrell had 21 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals in a 67-30 win over Annapolis.

She averages 23.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game for the No. 15 Cougars (13-5).

A veteran of the Maryland Shooting Stars Amateur Athletic Union team, Worrell will play next year at Morgan State.

Others considered: Suzie Albornoz, Notre Dame Prep, track; Emily Dorn, Reservoir, basketball; Mackenzie DeWees, Manchester Valley, basketball; Cassy Lopez, Mount Hebron, wrestling; Molly McAleer, Maryvale, basketball; Lacee Schmidt, Northeast, wrestling
