After first win in 3 years, Centennial's Carlos Dunmoodie named Ravens Coach of the Week

Centennial's Carlos Dunmoodie was named the Ravens High School Football Coach of the Week Thursday after leading the Eagles to their first victory in three years last week.

After losing 20 straight games, the Eagles needed less than four minutes to score on quarterback Matt Schoenberger keeper Friday night and they went on to defeat Hammond, 30-21. Last season, Centennial lost to Hammond, 40-0. The Eagles did not score more than 22 points in a single game. Friday night, they scored on their first three drives and led 18-0 at the half.

The Eagles had not won a game since Nov. 8, 2013.

"After everything these kids have been through, they are learning how to overcome adversity, and they are becoming better people because of it," Dunmoodie said in a news release.

"Our players never quit Friday night. We had guys playing both sides of the ball for almost the entire game, and they gave me their all from start to finish. The hard work both the players and the coaching staff put in during the offseason was evident. We are working to create a new identity for this team."

In addition to scoring three first-half touchdowns, all on Schoenberger keepers, the Eagles did not allow Hammond's offense to make it into Eagles' territory. The Golden Bears gained momentum in the second half, but Tyrese Dargan's interception return for a 70-yard touchdown gave the Eagles a 24-7 lead.

This is Dunmoodie's second year as the Eagles head coach.

"Last year I got off to a late start, getting hired right before the season, so we didn't have that time together to prepare … this year was completely different and it started with the weight room in the spring and summer time. There's been an incredible amount of focus and this here, the effort tonight, this is result of that," Dunmoodie said after the game.

Each winning coach receives a $2,000 donation for his football program as well as an award from Ravens coach John Harbaugh.
