Oakland Mills boys soccer coach Don Shea has spent many of his Oct. 4 birthdays on the sidelines, more times than not leading the Scorpions to victory.
On Tuesday, he'll be at it again, but this time is a little extra special.
Shea and the Scorpions will be hosting Howard County rival Wilde Lake where his son, Trevor, is the Wildecats' first-year coach. The game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
As an added bonus, Don Shea will get to watch his daughter, Megan, also in her first year as head coach of the Wilde Lake girls' team, take on the Scorpions at 4 p.m.
Trevor Shea spent the previous seven years as the junior varsity coach at Oakland Mills alongside his father until he became the Wildecats coach this fall. A 2001 Oakland Mills grad, he was part of three state championship teams coached by his dad.
As for today's game, Don Shea expects a typically competitive game with maybe a little extra emotion and energy because of the special circumstances.
"I'll just be proud to see him [Trevor] across the field," said Don Shea, who has won eight state titles at Oakland Mills.
