Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action around Anne Arundel County on Wednesday, May 5, 2021:
Indian Creek 18, Key 0: Megan Bunker had five goals, two assists and 14 draw controls while Mia Putzi added five goals and an assist to go with Sophee Gomberg’s four goals to lead the Eagles (12-1) to a win in their final regular season game.
Avery Barnhill (2 goals), Kallie Huff (1 goal, 1 assist) and Anastasia Malamantis (1 goal) also scored, while Cali Schwertfeger, Molly Bunker and Natalie Swope each had an assist. Defensively, freshman goalie Elia Alewine led the way with eight saves.
Indian Creek earned the No. 2 seed in the IAAM C Conference tournament and will host Mt. Carmel at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
AACS 14, Catholic 7: Lydia Wood had four goals and three assists, Tracy Grollman added a hat trick and Anna McCue pitched in with two tallies and two helpers to lead the Eagles to victory in their regular season finale.
Ruby Anders (2 goals), Ellie Lenhart (1 goal, 1 assist), McKenna Steinau (1 goal) and Ksenya Dittrich (1 goal) also got on the scoresheet for AACS, which earned the No. 3 seed in the IAAM B Conference playoffs and will host Catholic again at 4 p.m. Friday.
Key 13, Chapelgate 1: Hudson Smith had five goals and Reid Chapman had three strikes and an assist as the Obezags cruised to victory.
Also getting on the scoresheet were: Teddy Fleming (2 assists), James Madison (1 goal, 1 assist), Jaeden Clarke (2 assists), Liam Morin (1 goal, 1 assist), Alex Barranco (2 assists), Owen Wood (1 goal), Ed Bulmer (1 goal), and Henry Paucek (1 goal). Henry Robbins made six saves in goal for Key.
Severn 13 ½, AACS 7 ½: Junior Robbie McNitt swept his match while junior Josh Bing, sophomore Matt Kagan, and freshmen Jack Stamato and Andrew Giardina also contributed to the Admirals’ win. Severn (10-1) now stands atop the MIAA B Conference and will face St. Mary’s on Friday in the final match of the regular season.
