Elkridge Club's Hutsell repeats as MAPGA champion

David Hutsell, PGA director of Instruction at The Elkridge Club, has defended his title at the Middle Atlantic PGA Professional Championship.

Hutsell, the recently crowned PGA Professional national champion and winner of the Maryland Open, shot an 8-under par for the tournament played at Trump National Golf Club-DC in Potomac Falls, Va. His score was three strokes better than runner-up John O'Leary, PGA director of Instruction at Hidden Creek Country Club.

After a hot start Wednesday that included birdies on four straight holes (3-6), Hutsell gave five shots back on the final 12 holes, including a double-bogey on No. 18.

"I put myself in some tough spots on the final holes, but thankfully I played well enough up until then to allow myself some breathing room. John (O'Leary) kept the pressure on me and forced me to stay aggressive," Hutsell said after the victory, which earned him $10,600.
