Aaron Rodgers: 'It's always fun beating the Bears'

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed 18 of 23 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns. And he teamed up with James Jones on two of the scores.

Some things never seem to change when it comes to Aaron Rodgers dominating the Bears.

The Packers' ultra-efficient quarterback beat the Bears for the 13th time in 16 tries Sunday, completing 18 of 23 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns. And he teamed up with recently re-acquired receiver James Jones on two of the scores as he wound up with a passer rating of 140.5.

"It's always fun beating the Bears," Rodgers said of the Packers' 31-23 season-opening win at Soldier Field. "It's always ramped up a little bit more because of the rivalry and the history."

Rodgers performed his dissection of this Bears against some new faces and and a new defensive coordinator in Vic Fangio.

"They did some different things," Rodgers said. "They played kind of similar to how coach Fangio played us when he was in San Francisco.

"It was a good plan by them. They didn't bring a ton of pressure."

Rodgers, who was hampered last season by a hamstring injury, had one run for 11 yards Sunday and moved around in the pocket several times to extend plays to get his receivers time to get open.

"It's a different offense when I can do some of those things," he said. "You want to play some two-man and not have a guy on me? That's the risk you take.

"We got some conversions there with my feet. ... It gives us an extra element to our offense."

Jones, who played for the Raiders last season and was cut by the Giants this preseason, caught four passes for 51 yards and two touchdowns. He previously played seven seasons with the Packers.

"Knowing Aaron Rodgers and their relationship, if I was a betting man, I would've bet the ball was going to go to him today," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. "James looks like he's in amazing playing shape."

Said Jones: "I know it seems like I've been gone for 10 years, but I'm only a year removed, so it's (only) a couple of new things. It's real similar, and me and Aaron have been doing a lot of talking, trying to get on the same page. And we were able to capitalize today."

Jones caught a 13-yard TD pass in the first quarter and a 1-yard toss in the third that gave the Packers the lead for good at 17-13.

"That first touchdown reminded me of 2012 when James made a number of contested catches on his way to leading the NFL in touchdown receptions," Rodgers said. "He's back at it."

Rodgers' favorite play was a scramble and an improvised shovel pass to running back Eddie Lacy.

"How many times do you see me throw a ball like that? Not often," Rodgers said. "Luckily it was far enough out there for Eddie to make a play. I was just talking to him in the locker room about that. Eddie's a character. He was taking me through his thought process on that play.

"He was like, 'No, no, no … he's not throwing it. (Then), what is this? I'm Randy Moss!'"
