Maryland offensive lineman Brendan Moore named to Rimington Trophy watch list

Maryland offensive lineman Brendan Moore was named to the Rimington Trophy Spring Watch List with 56 other players, the school announced Tuesday.

The trophy is given annually to the best center in college football, and Alabama's Ryan Kelly, who was the 18th overall pick in this spring's NFL draft, was last season's winner.

Moore, a redshirt sophomore, appeared in seven games last season and started the season finale at left guard against Rutgers. In that game, a wild 46-41 victory, the Terps rushed for 401 yards.

During spring practice, DJ Durkin was hesitant to single out players for their performances and declare leaders at certain positions, but he was complimentary of Moore's leadership and play.

"He's really been a guy that's stood out so far this spring," Durkin said in late March. "He competes every day. He's consistent with what he does. He's our style of guy, meaning he's a blue collar-type player, so he's done a really good job."

Moore appears to be the leader for the center job, which belonged to the graduated Evan Mulrooney last season.
