Maryland associate head coach and defensive line coach Mike London is under contract for $800,000 over the next two years, while defensive backs coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim's contract is worth $170,000 next year, according to copies of memoranda of understanding obtained by The Baltimore Sun in a public-records request.

The hires of London and Abdul-Rahim were announced Dec. 9. The hiring of Scott Shafer as defensive coordinator was also announced at the same time, but documents for Shafer were unavailable.

London's contract runs through Dec. 31, 2017 and has a base salary of $100,000 for the first year. He'll get $200,000 in supplemental income, bringing his total compensation to $300,000 for 2016. In the second year of the deal, London's base salary jumps to $350,000 with supplemental income worth $150,000, bringing the total to $500,000.

London can make up to $65,000 in incentives in addition to his contract if Maryland reaches certain benchmarks:

  • Winning the Big Ten title game: $20,000
  • Making a bowl: $10,000
  • Making the College Football Playoff: $15,000
  • Making the CFP final: $25,000
  • Winning a bowl: $5,000

  • Winning the national championship: $20,000

London's contract also gives him six tickets to home and away football games, along with bowl games, and four tickets for every Maryland men's and women's basketball home game.

London is set to receive a $2.7 million buyout from Virginia, where he was the coach for six years before officially resigning in November.

Abdul-Rahim joined the Maryland staff after spending two seasons on Nick Saban's staff at Alabama. Abdul-Rahim's deal with Maryland is worth $170,000 for one season. His contract runs through Jan. 31, 2017.

Abdul-Rahim can make up to $55,000 in incentives in the same categories as London.

  • Making the Big Ten Conference championship game: $5,000
  • Winning the Big Ten title game: $10,000
  • Making a bowl: $5,000
  • Making the College Football Playoff: $15,000
  • Making the CFP final: $25,000
  • Winning a bowl: $5,000
  • Winning a CFP game: $15,000
  • Winning the national championship: $20,000

The former coach at Friendship Collegiate Academy in Washington also receives the same ticket perks as London and received reimbursement for moving expenses up to $13,000.

Neither memorandum of understanding -- London and Abdul-Rahim are expected to sign contracts soon -- appears to have a buyout clause if the coaches choose to leave.

Maryland coach DJ Durkin's contract could be worth more than $15 million over six years.
