The NFL roster churn has been going on for most of the month, with teams shuffling the deck to make room for new draft picks and hoping to identify talents that slipped through the cracks. And some former Maryland players have been caught up in it.
The Minnesota Vikings cut running back Brandon Ross on Monday to make room for defensive tackle Travis Raciti, the team announced. Ross had been signed as an undrafted free agent by the Vikings on May 2.
Ross rushed for 958 yards and 10 touchdowns while averaging 6.4 yards per carry as a fifth-year senior in 2015.
Former Maryland kicker Brad Craddock was cut by the Cleveland Browns last week.
On Friday, former Maryland defensive back Sean Davis signed a four-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Davis was a second-round selection and the No. 58 overall pick in April after a four-year career in College Park that featured 40 starts and 50 appearances. After he was selected, former Steelers great Carnell Lake -- now the team's defensive backs coach -- referred to Davis as an "exceptional guy." According to the Steelers' team site, Davis will be used at safety, where he played for his first three years at Maryland before he was moved to cornerback for his senior season.
