No. 1 Maryland (2-0) at No. 8 North Carolina (2-1)
When: Saturday, 1 p.m.
Outlook: The Terps escaped Florida on Saturday with a 16-14 win over the then-No. 3 Gators thanks to a five-goal run early in the second half, including three free-postion goals from top scorer Megan Whittle (McDonogh). The Tar Heels bounced back with wins over a pair of unranked teams after dropping their season opener, 15-14 in double-overtime to James Madison. The Terps and Tar Heels have a rich history with Maryland leading the series, 25-13. They met in three national championship games from 2013 to 2016 with North Carolina winning twice. Both teams had considerable rebuilding to do coming into this season and both have struggled at times on defense. While the Tar Heels have two new goalies, however, the defending national champions return Megan Taylor (Glenelg), last year’s National Goalie of the Year. Whittle (nine goals) has led a balanced offense in scoring for the past three years, and is doing so again. North Carolina also has a balanced attack led by Marie McCool (14 goals).
