Boys' Latin found itself trailing 8-5 with four minutes left in the third quarter, but the Lakers regrouped and outscored host Westminster School the rest of the way to win, 11-9, in lacrosse Saturday in Atlanta. Patrick Spencer had three goals and two assists for Boys' Latin (2-1). The Wildcats fell to 6-1.
Boys basketball
No. 1 Calvert Hall 74, Bishop Walsh 53: The Cardinals (30-7) led by 19 points at the half and beat the host Spartans to claim seventh place at the Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament in Cumberland.
Gonzaga (D.C.) 81, No. 3 John Carroll 46: The Eagles (32-11) overpowered the Patriots (28-9) to win the consolation championship at the Alhambra Invitational.
Paul VI (Va.) 78, No. 5 Mount Carmel 60: The Cougars (32-11) struggled and fell to the Panthers in the fifth-place game of the Alhambra Invitational.
Paul VI led 18-10 with two minutes left in the first quarter and pushed the lead to 16 points with two minutes left in the half.
Friday's boys lacrosse
Landon 14, St. Mary's 5: Alex Woodall won 13 of 20 faceoffs to keep the Saints (0-1) in the game, but St. Mary's fell to the host Bears (2-0).
Severn 18, Sts. Peter & Paul 4: Max Bailey, Charlie Olmert and Hunter Tyler scored three goals each to power the host Admirals (1-0) past the Sabres (0-1).
Severn led 13-1 at halftime.
Friday's girls lacrosse
Roland Park 14, Collegiate School (Va.) 8: Francesca Whitehurst scored a game-high five goals to lead the Reds (1-0) past the host Cougars (0-1).
