No. 4 Cornell men's lacrosse wrested control of the game late in the first half and held on for a 19-16 victory over host Hobart on Friday.
Clarke Petterson scored the tying and go-ahead goals with 5:32 and 4:52 left in the first half for a 4-3 Big Red advantage. Cornell (1-0) never trailed again, but the Statesmen (2-1) cut the lead to 7-6 with 8:45 left in the game. The Big Red answered with their second of three 3-0 runs in the game.
Petterson and John Piatelli each had four goals for Cornell. Jeff Teat finished with a game-high six goals for the Big Red and Justin Scott had five goals for Hobart.
Nation women
No. 4 Stony Brook 15, No. 13 Colorado 5: Anna Tesoriero made 14 saves and the visting Seawolves (1-0) beat the Buffaloes (1-2). Stony Brook's offense was led by a trio of three-goal scorers: Ally Kennedy, Taryn Ohlmiller and Siobhan Rafferty. Ohmiller added a team-high five assists to her totals. Stony Brook opened with a 7-0 run.
No. 18 Southern Cal 20, San Diego State 16: Emily Concialdi and Kelsey Huff each scored five goals to lead the visiting Trojans (2-0) past the Aztecs (2-1). USC took a 16-7 lead in the first half. Taylor Sullivan (Broadneck) had five goals for San Diego State.
No. 20 Notre Dame 19, Ohio State 10: Maddie Howe scored six goals to lead the visiting Fighting Irish (4-0) past the Buckeyes (3-1). Notre Dame used a 6-1 run to take a 10-6 halftime lead.
Andie Aldave (McDonogh) had 16 draw controls, including 10 in the first half, and broke her single-game school record 11. Aldave's success on the draw also helped the Irish earn a program-record 23 draw controls against the Buckeyes. The previous record was 22, which came on February 11, 2017 against Detroit Mercy.
Baley Parrott had five goals for Ohio State.
