After a week of uncertainty about Dom Starsia's future as the head coach of the Virginia men's lacrosse program, the university confirmed Monday it will not renew Starsia's contract and that a search for his replacement is underway.

The Hall of Famer led the Cavaliers to four NCAA championships and 13 final four appearances in 24 seasons. Starsia is the winningest coach in Division I history with a 375-149 career record, including a 274-103 mark at Virginia. But the Cavaliers have a 1-15 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference since 2013 and haven't won an NCAA tournament game since the first round in 2012 after winning the title in 2011.

"These decisions are not easy, and Dom and I have had a number of substantive conversations over the last several weeks regarding the future of the program," athletic director Craig Littlepage said in a release. Starsia's five-year, $250,000-per-year contract was set to expire in January. Virginia will pay Starsia $400,000 through January.

College football: Junior running back Ryan Cary rushed for two touchdowns in the first half as Johns Hopkins capped its nine-day trip to Italy with a 56-0 victory over the Lazio Marines. The game, part of the first foreign trip in the history of the Blue Jays, was played at the Centro Sportivo Olimpico dell'Esercito in Rome. The Marines are in the middle of their Italian Football Leagues season and have a 4-2 record. They defeated Warrior Bologna, 40-14, in their last game prior to facing Johns Hopkins.

Men's college tennis: Bowdoin (18-3) rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Johns Hopkins (19-6), 5-4, in the NCAA Division III quarterfinals in Kalamazoo, Mich. The Blue Jays, who were making their fourth quarterfinals appearance in five years, had their nine-match win streak ended.

Minor league baseball: A Charles County investment group has a deal in place to move the Batavia (N.Y.) Muckdogs, short-season Class A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, to Waldorf starting in 2017, where they would become an affiliate of the Washington Nationals, according to Charles County Commissioner Ken Robinson. Robinson emphasized last week that the move is "not a done deal" but said that the investment group would become the only African-American ownership group in major or minor league baseball if the deal becomes official. The team's home would be Regency Furniture Stadium, which opened in 2008. Robinson said the Nationals have been involved in negotiations about territorial rights "on a limited basis" with the Orioles and Major League Baseball's commissioner's office.

Varsity lacrosse: Boys' Latin attackman Logan Wisnauskas became the last of the area players selected to compete in the 11th annual Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Game, set for July 2 at Johnny Unitas Stadium. In the last of four waves of selections, Wisnauskas was the only area player chosen. On the girls side, Manchester Valley defender Sami Chenoweth and Broadneck midfielder Brianna Harris were also added to the roster. That makes four area boys and 12 area girls on the rosters, which will be divided into teams representing the North and South later this week.
