Freshman midfielder Natalie Sulmonte scored four goals to lift No. 19 Towson (15-3) to a 14-6 victory over James Madison (10-9) in the Colonial Athletic Association championship game at Drexel.
The Tigers won their fourth CAA title in the past five years under coach Sonia LaMonica. Senior midfielder Breanna Hamm was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after posting two goals, five ground balls, four caused turnovers and a draw control in the championship game.
Hamm was joined on the All-Tournament team by Kaitlyn Montalbano, Sulmonte and sophomore defender Tianna Wallpher.
More women's college lacrosse: Kasey Mitchell scored on a free-position shot as time expired to lift No. 6 Stony Brook (16-3) to a 10-9 victory over visiting Albany (11-6) in the America East Conference championship game.
-Hannah Murphy scored a hat trick as No. 12 UMass (18-1) claimed a 10-7 win over Richmond (9-10) for their eighth straight Atlantic 10 Conference title.
-Amie Dickson scored two goals and had two assists and coach Jenny Graap earned her 200th career win as visiting No. 6 Cornell (13-4) held on for an 11-10 win over No. 10 Penn for their first Ivy League championship. Trailing 10-4 with 21:19 remaining, the Quakers scored five straight goals to cut the deficit to 10-9 with 11:37 to go.
Men's college lacrosse: Ben Reeves scored had a career-high nine points on four goals and five assists as the No. 6 Yale men's lacrosse team (13-2) earned a 14-9 win over Harvard (8-8) in the Ivy League championship game Sunday in Providence, R.I. Reeves became the first Bulldog to have at least 30 goals and 30 assists in a season. Yale outscored the Crimson 4-1 in the fourth quarter and 7-3 in the second half. Michael Keasey had four goals for the Bulldogs, including a buzzer-beater at the end of the first half that cut Harvard's lead to 7-6.
-Matt Kavanagh scored two goals and had four assists and Ryder Garnsey had a game-high four goals as No. 7 Notre Dame (10-3) earned a 13-7 win over visiting Army West Point (10-7) to end a two-game losing streak. The Fighting Irish outscored the Black Knights 5-0 in the second quarter for a 9-2 halftime lead. Army scored less than four minutes into the second half, but Notre Dame answered with a 4-0 run for a 13-3 advantage with 6:57 remaining.
-Deemer Class (Loyola Blakefield) scored five goals to lead No. 10 Duke (11-7) to a 15-8 win over host Boston University (8-7). The Terriers took a 2-1 lead 58 seconds into the second quarter, but Jack Bruckner answered for the Blue Devils two minutes later to spark a 5-0 run for a 6-2 lead with 5:26 remaining before halftime. Duke extended its lead to as large as 12-3 with a 4-0 run to start the third quarter. Ryan Hillburn finished with a goal and four assists and James Burr had three goals and an assist for BU.
Men's college tennis: Johns Hopkins (16-5) earned a 5-1 win over Swarthmore (15-6) to win its 10th straight Centennial Conference championship and capture the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division-III tournament. Senior Nicholas Garcia was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after going 4-0 on the weekend.
Women's college tennis: Johns Hopkins (17-4) claimed its 10th straight CC championship with a 5-0 victory over Washington College (14-4) in the tournament final and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division-III tournament. Senior Olivia Kasten clinched the win and was named the tournament's MVP.
College baseball: Maryland (25-20, 10-8 Big Ten Conference) rallied from a 4-2 eighth-inning deficit to tie the game at 4, but visiting Illinois (25-20, 9-9) scored in the ninth for a 5-4 victory. Maryland sophomore right-hander Brian Shaffer allowed four runs in 71/3 innings.
College softball: Sophomore infielder-outfielder Skylynne Ellazar hit a go-ahead grand slam in the fifth inning to lead host Maryland (12-40) to a 10-8 win over Indiana (28-24) in the regular-season finale for both teams. Ellazar went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and finished the season with a .399 batting average, the third-best mark in program history.
College track and field: Julian Woods (Century) won gold in the 110-meter hurdles to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's team to a fourth-place finish in the Northeast Conference outdoor championships. Kelly Yanucil won gold in javelin to help the Mountaineers women take fifth. Central Connecticut won the men's title and Sacred Heart captured the women's crown.
Horse racing: Jockey Trevor McCarthy and trainer Kieron Magee were crowned champions as Laurel Park concluded its 54-day winter-spring meet. The race for the riding title came down to the final day before McCarthy earned a riding triple aboard Another Badge ($3.80) in the fourth race, Desert Princess ($6.20) in the fifth and Pool Winner ($3.20) in the eighth. McCarthy finished with 66 wins, six more than Victor Carrasco, who had closed to within one midway through Saturday's card before McCarthy won with five of his last 12 mounts to pull away. It was the fourth overall riding title for McCarthy, Maryland's leading jockey in 2014 who missed time last year with injuries. Among his highlights this year were stakes victories in the Frank Whiteley, Miracle Wood and Henry S. Clark, and a thrilling open allowance triumph aboard legend Ben's Cat in the multi-millionaire gelding's 10-year-old debut May 1. Leading trainer in Maryland the past two years, Magee had one winner over the final weekend to finish with 29 victories, five more than runner-up Claudio Gonzalez. It was the third straight Laurel meet title for Magee, following his summer and fall championships in 2015.
