An NCAA-best four players on the No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team — Taylor Cummings (McDonogh), Megan Douty, Brooke Griffin (South River) and Megan Whittle (McDonogh) — were named to the 25-member Tewaaraton Award nominee list, as announced by the foundation Thursday. Cummings won the award, which goes to the nation's best player, in 2014, and Douty was a finalist.
Men's Tewaaraton: Johns Hopkins junior attackman Ryan Brown (Calvert Hall) and Maryland redshirt junior goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr made the cut from 50 watch-list players to 25 nomineees. Duke junior midfielder Deemer Class (Loyola Blakefield) was the only other player with Maryland ties on the list.

More men's college lacrosse: Anne Arundel Community College advanced to the Region XX championship game with a 12-11 victory over Howard Community College on Thursday. Reece Sullivan (Arundel) and Nathan Neal (Severna Park) each scored three goals to pace the Pioneers, and Darek Davis (South River) and Edward Hartle each scored twice. AACC will play CCBC-Essex, which defeated Northern Virginia, 30-10, in the title game at Harford Community College today at 1 p.m. ... Loyola Maryland senior Patrick Frazier was named one of five men's finalists for the One Love Foundation's Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award.
Tucker signs restricted free-agent tender
Ravens kicker Justin Tucker has signed his $2.356 million second-round restricted free-agent tender, according to NFL sources. NFL teams expressed interest in Tucker but ultimately didn't put in an offer sheet before today's league deadline because of the draft-pick compensation involved. An undrafted free agent in 2012, Tucker is the most accurate kicker in NFL history, having made 97 of 108 career field-goal attempts (89.81 percent). In other contract news, veteran safety Will Hill has signed his $1.542 million right-of-first-refusal original-round tender, according to NFL sources. Hill, who didn't draw offer sheets from other NFL teams, is expected to compete with Matt Elam for the strong safety job.
