Pat Candon scored the game-winner with 1:22 left in overtime as the Stevenson men's lacrosse team edged host Salisbury, 9-8, Wednesday night. Candon had two goals. The Mustangs (5-3) built an 8-6 lead with 2:56 left in the game before the Sea Gulls (6-4) scored twice to force overtime. Carson Kalama (Bel Air) finished with a game-high four goals for Salisbury.
More state men's lacrosse: Blake Grudzien scored four goals to lead host Frostburg State to a 20-3 victory over St. Vincent. The Bobcats improved to 10-0, and the Bearcats fell to 3-4. Frostburg State opened with an 11-0 run in the first quarter.
National men's lacrosse: Lyle Thompson scored a game-high nine goals to power No. 9 Albany past host Harvard, 21-18. The Great Danes (6-1) broke a 9-all tie by outscoring the Crimson (4-5) by 7-5 in the third quarter. Matthew Bertrams' goal with 9:55 left started a 4-0 Albany run and broke a 12-all tie, and Albany never lost the lead again.
Women's basketball: The Women's Basketball Coaches Association named Maryland sophomore guard Lexie Brown an All-Region nominee for the Division I Coaches' All-America team. The Terps' Brenda Frese was named Regional Coach of the Year and is one of eight finalists for the NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year.
Men's basketball: St. Mary's senior guard Nick LaGuerre (Lansdowne) was named to the DIII News All-America second team. Johns Hopkins senior forward George Bugarinovic and Hood senior guard Chris Cook received honorable mention.
Academics: Men's basketball players Varun Ram (River Hill), Evan Smotrycz and Jacob Susskind and women's basketball players Lexie Brown, Malina Howard, Brionna Jones (Aberdeen), Chloe Pavlech and Tierney Pfirman were among 21 Maryland athletes on the All-Big Ten winter academic list for carrying a 3.0 or higher GPA as a letter winner.
Women's tennis: St. Mary's freshman Melissa Barall (Wilde Lake) was named Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week. ... UMBC junior Madlena Kurasz was selected as America East Player of the Week.
Administration: Carolyn Schlie Femovich will resign as the executive director of the Patriot League on July 31. She served for 16 years.

Healey, Donatelli added to U.S. National Arena team
Blast defender Pat Healey and forward Tony Donatelli will join the U.S. National Arena soccer team, which defeated El Salvador, 9-3, on Tuesday in Ontario, Calif., to clinch a quarterfinal berth in the World Cup. The United States (2-0-0) played for the Group A championship late Wednesday night in San Diego. The quarterfinals will be Friday in Tulsa, Okla., and the semifinals and finals are Saturday and Sunday in Chicago. Healey was the Major Arena Soccer League Defensive Player of the Year; Donatelli led the Blast in points in the regular season (35) and postseason (8).

Boating season opens at Liberty Reservoir
The Baltimore Department of Public Works opened the two boat ramps at Liberty Reservoir on Wednesday. DPW cautioned that ice remains in some Liberty Reservoir coves. Prettyboy Reservoir remains closed to boaters, with large sections of the reservoir still covered with ice. At Liberty and Prettyboy reservoirs, boating season normally runs from March 1 to Dec. 31. At Loch Raven Reservoir, boating season is still on schedule to open April 3 and go to the last Sunday in November, with a limited schedule after Labor Day. Boating at all three city reservoirs requires a valid boating permit. For information on permits, call DPW Natural Resources at 410-795-6150.
NFL: Former Washington Redskins linebacker London Fletcher says he wants to make amends for his scathing criticism of the team's former defensive coordinator, Jim Haslett. On Wednesday, Fletcher wrote on Twitter that he had "reached out" to Haslett and "apologized for the harm I caused him and his family. He didn't deserve to be treated like that." In a TV appearance in December, Fletcher called Haslett "clueless" and responsible for Washington's "ineptitude" on defense. The linebacker retired after the 2013 season. Haslett was let go by the Redskins after last season. Fletcher tweeted Wednesday: "I let my personal frustrations get to me. `Haz' treated me great while we were together. We all played a part in our success & failure."
