Digest (March 15): Bel Air graduate Alexis Strobel leads Salisbury to women's lacrosse win

The fifth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team finished its three-game home stand with a 13-8 victory over Plymouth State on Friday afternoon. Alexis Strobel (Bel Air) had a team-best six assists. It marks the second time in her career she has accomplished the feat. The Sea Gulls (6-1) used a strong opening 30 minutes to take a commanding 14-2 lead into the break. The Sea Gulls forced the Panthers into 24 turnovers as 11 different players caused a turnover for Salisbury, while the maroon and gold limited Plymouth State to just seven shots in the game.

More women's lacrosse: Quintin Hoch-Bullen had four goals and two assists and Eliza Radochonski had three goals and three assists to lead No. 13 Denver (4-1) to a 20-2 rout over host Gardner-Webb (3-4). Denver went on a 19-0 run from 57 seconds into the game to 17:23 left in the second half.

Men's lacrosse: Brandon Warren (Calvert Hall) made seven saves and host Salisbury improved to 7-0 with a 22-6 rout over visiting Illinois Wesleyan. The Sea Gulls broke a 2-2 tie with a 6-0 run. Josh Melton had six goals and four assists and Corey Gwin had five goals and two assists for Salisbury. ... Asher Nolting scored five goals to lead No. 10 High Point (7-1) to an 18-9 victory over host Virginia Military Institute (3-3). The Panthers built an 11-2 lead in the first half. The victory was the third straight.

Men's basketball: Senior Pere Alexander scored a team-high 17 points and sophomore Talanya Hutton chipped in career-highs of 14 points and eight rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Bowie State's season came to a close with a 67-60 loss to No.3 seed Indiana (Pa.) on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the NCAA Atlantic Regional.

Baseball: Johns Hopkins had its eight-game winning streak ended as the Blue Jays dropped a 5-2 game to top-ranked Wooster on Friday morning. ... Washington College (11-0) got complete game victories from sophomore Mike Smith and freshman Jonah Frankel as it swept Wheaton (Ill.) 6-1 and 8-1. ... Hood College opened Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play with a 5-4 win over Stevenson. Dylan Beck had a two hit day, including a two-run homer for the Blazers and Jordan Patterson went 3-for-4 with a double.

Alwaysmining featured in Private Terms Stakes

Runnymede Racing's multiple stakes winner Alwaysmining, who has exclusively raced in Maryland since last summer, will remain in familiar surroundings but face a new challenge in trying two turns for the first time in today's $100,000 Private Terms at Laurel Park . The 30th running of the Private Terms at about 1 1/16 miles is among five stakes worth $450,000 in purses on an 11-race program with a first-race post of 1:10 p.m. It is the second stakes for 3-year-olds this winter at Laurel following the one-mile Miracle Wood Feb. 16, and precedes the 11/8-mile Federico Tesio on April 20, a "Win and You're In" event for Triple Crown-nominated horses to the 144th Preakness Stakes (G1) on May 18.

Varsity girls lacrosse: Claire Bockstie scored four goals to lead Maryvale to a 13-8 victory over Severn. ... Lydia Wood scored six goals to lead Annapolis Area Christian School to an 18-11 victory over Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Hannah Leubecker had nine goals for FCA.
