The top-seeded Notre Dame men's lacrosse team's four-goal lead crumbled in the third quarter, but the Fighting Irish (12-2) regrouped in the fourth and used a 6-1 run to defeat Albany, 14-10, in an NCAA Division I tournament quarterfinal Saturday at Denver.
Sergio Perkovic led Notre Dame with four goals, and Conor Doyle (Gilman) had three. Connor Field finished with a game-high six goals for the Great Danes (16-3).
After an even first quarter, the Irish gained traction in the second quarter, taking a 4-3 lead with 5:44 left. A series of lightning delays couldn't slow Notre Dame as it outscored Albany 6-2 for an 8-4 halftime lead.
But the Great Danes came back with a 5-0 run in the third quarter, and Kyle McClary gave them a 9-8 lead with 2:25 left in the third quarter.
No. 4 seed Denver 15, Ohio State 13: Wesley Berg scored a game-high six goals and the host Pioneers (15-2) advanced to the final four for the fourth time in five years.
The Buckeyes (12-7) led 7-1 after the first 18 minutes before Denver went on a 9-0 run to take the lead for good. The Pioneers will face Notre Dame in Saturday's semifinal.
Women
No. 2 seed North Carolina 11, Penn State 8: Sydney Holman had a season-high four goals and two assists to lead the host Tar Heels (17-3) in a come-from-behind victory over the Nittany Lions (16-5) in an NCAA Division I quarterfinal.
Madison Cyr (Winters Mill) and Maggie McCormick (Liberty) scored twice for Penn State.
North Carolina trailed 8-4 in the second half, tying its biggest deficit of the season, before closing the game on a 7-0 run.
No. 3 seed Duke 7, Princeton 3: Kelsey Duryea made five saves to anchor a Blue Devils defense that held the visiting Tigers (16-4) to a season low in goals.
Duke defenders Isabelle Montagne and Maura Schwitter and attackers Kyra Harney and Brigid Smith each caused a turnover in the NCAA quarterfinal win.
