Lacrosse roundup (May 11): Quinnipiac men advance to face top-seeded Maryland

Jack Brust (Calvert Hall) made 18 saves for the host Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team in a 14-9 victory over Hartford in the NCAA Division I tournament Wednesday.

The victory was their first NCAA tournament win in school history. The Bobcats (12-3) advance to face top-seeded host Maryland (14-2) in a first-round game Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

The Hawks (11-7) took a 1-0 lead with 11:46 left in the first quarter. Quinnipiac responded with a 4-0 run and never trailed again. And after giving up the first two goals of the second quarter, the Bobcats went on a 5-0 run.

Foster Cuomo had a game-high four goals for Quinnipiac.

Salisbury 19, Catholic 3: The host Sea Gulls (19-1) used an 11-0 run to break open a one-goal game and beat the Cardinals (11-7) in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

Nick Garbarino had five goals and Carson Kalama (Bel Air) had four to lead the Salisbury offense. Nathan Blondino had eight assists, the most in a game since Jason Coffman had 14 assists in 1996.

The Sea Gulls advance to Saturday's second round and will face Colorado College (12-4), an 11-10 overtime winner over Whittier (8-6).

Cabrini 15, Stevenson 10: The Cavaliers (15-4) outscored the host Mustangs 12-5 over the second and third quarters to win an NCAA Division III first-round game.

Stevenson's winning streak ended at 12 games in its eighth straight NCAA playoff appearance.

Matt Tompkins scored two of his four goals in the first quarter to help the Mustangs (15-5) to a 3-0 lead. Cabrini used a 5-0 run in the second quarter to take the lead for good. Ethan Heisman led the Cavaliers with four goals and an assist.
