PHILADELPHIA — The All-American men's lacrosse teams by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association were announced this morning with some notable distinctions.
Maryland (16-2), the top seed in the NCAA Division I tournament, placed senior midfielder Bryan Cole and junior short-stick defensive midfielder Isaiah Davis-Allen on the first team. The Terps face No. 5 seed Brown (16-2) in today's second semifinal at Lincoln Financial Field.
Cole leads Maryland in assists with 27 and is second in points with 48. Davis-Allen is third on the team in caused turnovers with 10 and fourth in ground balls with 36 and has added three goals and one assist.
Freshman attackman Pat Spencer – whose No. 7 seed Loyola Maryland (14-3) will meet North Carolina (10-6) in the first semifinal at noon – was left off the first team. Spencer made the second team after finishing second in the nation in assists with 47 and third in points with 83.
The four attackmen on the first team are Brown junior Dylan Molloy (60 goals and 54 assists), Yale sophomore Ben Reeves (45G, 34A), Denver junior Connor Cannizzaro (46G, 23A) and Syracuse redshirt senior Dylan Donahue (29G, 32A). Molloy is not expected to play in today's semifinal because of a broken right foot, and the other three attackmen were bounced earlier from the postseason.
Duke senior midfielder Deemer Class (Loyola Blakefield) also made the first team.
Joining Spencer on the second team are Johns Hopkins senior attackman Ryan Brown (Calvert Hall), Maryland junior attackman Matt Rambo, North Carolina senior short-stick defensive midfielder Jake Matthai (Gilman), Maryland senior defenseman Matt Dunn (Loyola Blakefield), Navy junior defenseman Chris Fennell and Maryland redshirt senior goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr.
The third team includes a pair of long-stick midfielders in Maryland redshirt senior Greg Danseglio and Navy junior Matt Rees (Boys' Latin), Towson junior short-stick defensive midfielder Jack Adams (Hereford), Ohio State senior defenseman Robby Haus (Gilman), and Maryland junior defenseman Tim Muller.
Earning honorable mention honors on attack are Towson junior Ryan Drenner (Westminster), Maryland junior Colin Heacock (Boys' Latin), UMBC senior Nate Lewnes (St. Mary's), Johns Hopkins sophomore Shack Stanwick (Boys' Latin), and Air Force sophomore Chris Walsch (Gilman).
The midfield group included Johns Hopkins junior John Crawley, North Carolina senior midfielder Patrick Kelly (Calvert Hall), Fairfield senior T.J. Neubauer (Loyola Blakefield), Navy sophomore Casey Rees (Boys' Latin), and Loyola Maryland redshirt junior Brian Sherlock.
Others earning honorable-mention status are Johns Hopkins junior Nick Fields and Towson senior Mike Lowe on defense, North Carolina junior Stephen Kelly (Calvert Hall) as a faceoff specialist, and Bryant senior Gunnar Waldt (St. Paul's) as a goalie.
