Penn State's starting men's lacrosse goalie killed in car accident

The starting goalie for Penn State's men's lacrosse team, Connor Darcey, died in a car accident in Boston's North End early Friday, according to multiple reports.

Darcey, 21, was a Wellesley (Mass.) High School graduate who just finished his redshirt sophomore season at Penn State.

Reports indicate he was pronounced dead at the scene along with another person. Darcey was a passenger in a BMW convertible that hit a car and rolled over, ejecting the three people in the vehicle, according to the reports.

Our hearts go out to Connor Darcey's family, teammates, friends and everyone who knew him. It's a very sad day. The Penn State family has suffered a tremendous loss and we are deeply saddened. Our thoughts and prayers are with Connor's family, friends, fellow students and the men's lacrosse family.

In a 14-9 loss to Johns Hopkins in the first Big Ten Conference men's lacrosse tournament, Darcey made 17 saves and was named to the all-tournament team.

A few weeks earlier, in an 11-10 overtime loss to Hopkins, Darcey had a game-high 13 saves.
