The starting goalie for Penn State's men's lacrosse team, Connor Darcey, died in a car accident in Boston's North End early Friday, according to multiple reports.
Darcey, 21, was a Wellesley (Mass.) High School graduate who just finished his redshirt sophomore season at Penn State.
Reports indicate he was pronounced dead at the scene along with another person. Darcey was a passenger in a BMW convertible that hit a car and rolled over, ejecting the three people in the vehicle, according to the reports.
Penn State released the following statement:
Our hearts go out to Connor Darcey's family, teammates, friends and everyone who knew him. It's a very sad day. The Penn State family has suffered a tremendous loss and we are deeply saddened. Our thoughts and prayers are with Connor's family, friends, fellow students and the men's lacrosse family.
In a 14-9 loss to Johns Hopkins in the first Big Ten Conference men's lacrosse tournament, Darcey made 17 saves and was named to the all-tournament team.
A few weeks earlier, in an 11-10 overtime loss to Hopkins, Darcey had a game-high 13 saves.
