Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week (May 21): Matt Landis, Notre Dame

(Notre Dame athletics)

Pelham, N.Y., junior, defenseman

The top-seeded Fighting Irish defeated Albany, 14-10, in Saturday's NCAA Division I tournament quarterfinal thanks to numerous contributors, but perhaps the most important role was played by the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Landis, who limited Great Danes senior attackman and 2014 co-Tewaaraton Award winner Lyle Thompson to one goal on 11 shots. Thompson's .091 shooting percentage was the second-lowest mark of his season, trailing only the .000 percentage he posted in the team's 23-7 rout of Siena on April 21.
