Matt Barrett has been a metaphorical wall for the No. 7 Cavaliers. In Saturday's 15-14 win against No. 9 Cornell, the 6-foot, 220-pound goalie made a career-high 21 saves. Barrett turned away nine shots in a second quarter during which the Big Red failed to convert three one-minute penalties and Virginia scored twice to extend its advantage to three goals. His performance followed a 20-save effort in a 15-9 loss at No. 1 Syracuse on March 1. Barrett, who was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week and ranks fourth in Division I in saves per game (14.8), posted 13 stops in Tuesday's 15-14 victory over St. Joseph's.
