Men's lacrosse Player of the Week (April 9): Ben Williams, Syracuse

Syracuse faceoff specialist Ben Williams is the Player of the Week. (MICHAEL OKONIEWSKI, Baltimore Sun)

Mendota Heights, Minn., sophomore, faceoff specialist

One way to take some air out of No. 9 Albany's high-flying offense is to keep the ball out of the sticks of Lyle Thompson & Co., and the No. 2 Orange used Williams to do just that. The 5-foot-11, 192-pound player won 24 of 27 faceoffs and had a career-high 15 ground balls to take the time-of-possession battle away from a Great Danes offense that had averaged 24 goals in its previous four games. He went 9-for-9 in the first and third quarters. Williams is second in Division I in faceoff percentage at 70.0 percent (147-for-210) and first in ground balls per game at 10.7.
