Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week (April 23): Matt Kavanaugh, Notre Dame

Rockville Centre, N.Y., junior attackman

Matt Kavanagh continued to demonstrate why he is a leading candidate to be named a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, which is given to the top collegiate player in the country. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound attackman scored four goals in the top-ranked Fighting Irish's 15-14 win over No. 2 North Carolina this past Saturday. Kavanagh sandwiched a pair of man-up goals around one by sophomore midfielder Sergio Perkovic in the games's final 1:05 — including the game-winner with seven seconds remaining — to help Notre Dame overcome a 14-12 deficit. Kavanagh, who leads the team in assists (22) and points (43), was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Offensive Player of the Week.
