As the top high school girls lacrosse player in the country last spring, McDonogh attacker Megan Whittle excelled at finding ways to score amid intense defensive pressure. Everyone knew she would get the ball in the clutch and she still pumped in 88 goals.
That's not likely to stop as she moves on to play for Maryland.
Whittle won't need long to adapt to the college game. She can beat defenders in so many ways, with a quick first step on the dodge or from an impossible angle on a crease roll. She's not likely to be rattled in a close game, bringing a composure honed long before she led the Eagles to a couple of comeback playoff wins as they extended their national-record winning streak to 112 games and won their fifth straight IAAM A Conference championship.
She's already on the national radar. Last season's All-Metro Player of the Year was the only high school player invited to try out for the U.S. national team in June.
