NAVY WOMEN’S LACROSSE: Assistant coach Aly Messinger has been promoted to associate head coach for offense, head coach Cindy Timchal announced. Messinger has served as an assistant coach for the Midshipmen since 2017.
Over the past two seasons, Messinger has helped the Midshipmen reach historic heights. Navy has advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals each of the last two seasons, and in 2017 became the first women’s team from a Service Academy to advance to an NCAA Final Four.
Since her arrival in 2017, Navy has posted the best two offensive seasons in school history, recording the top two efforts in points, points per game, goals, assists, assists per game, shots attempted, and shots on goal. In addition, Navy set the school record in goals per game (17.18) and free position goals (78) during the 2018 season. Under Messinger, the team has totaled 1,082 points (541 per year), including 736 goals (368 per year) and 346 assists (173 per year).
NAVY WOMEN’S TENNIS: The Mids begin their 2018-19 season at the Stony Brook Invitational, which runs from Friday through Sunday in Stony Brook, N.Y. Matches will take place at Stony Brook University and Stony Brook Prep School.
Navy is set to compete at the Stony Brook Invitational for the 10th-straight season.
ST. MARY’S COLLEGE MEN’S SOCCER: Junior forward Josh McRobie (Arundel) directed the ball top shelf for his first goal during the Seahawk’ 3-0 non-conference shutout victory over Washington College on Wednesday night. McRobie is a transfer from Frostburg State.
