Las Vegas QB Micah Bowens II commits to Penn State

Penn State continues to stretch its recruiting boundaries, picking up a commitment this week from a quarterback from Las Vegas.

Micah Bowens II, a junior at Bishop Gorman High, announced his commitment on Twitter. Bowens became the fifth player to join Penn State’s 2020 recruiting class.

A three-star prospect according to Rivals and 247Sports, Bowens is the first quarterback in the class. He rushed for 165 yards and threw three touchdown passes in Bishop Gorman’s 69-26 win over Bishop Manogue for the Nevada Class 4A championship in December.

Bishop Gorman, which plays a national schedule and claims three national championships from 2014-16, has won 10 consecutive state titles. Bowens took over as the starting quarterback last season. He is a dual-threat player who totaled nearly 3,500 passing and rushing yards.

Bowens also has offers from Arizona, Nebraska, Oregon and Duke, among others.

Penn State’s 2020 recruiting class is looking for its first Pennsylvania player. In addition to Bowens, the Lions have received commitments from two players from Maryland, one from Florida and one from Michigan.
